There was Nintendo's shameless THE WIZARD, the excruciating GARBAGE PAIL KIDS: THE MOVIE, and interestingly enough, an actual McDonald's movie called MAC AND ME which was basically just E.T. except they replaced the Reese's Pieces with Big Macs.<br /><br />Personally, I think it's a huge misjudgment of success to look at how well Transformers did and conclude that being a toy made it successful. It was successful because it had geek mythology backing it up, and geeks now drive the dollar. I think the litmus test is that if geeks can argue over it, it can succeed. That's why WATCHMEN didn't do as well. It didn't drive geek debate. Had they made some controversial changes to the original material, geeks would have chatted it up in an angry frenzy and more people would have gone to see it as a result.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
